Explanations and disadvantages of “normal” masternodes

A masternode is a means of investing and securing a blockchain. It is also one of the 3 main ways to validate blocks on a blockchain with cryptomining and proof of stake (staking), and thus be rewarded for this work.

It is generally composed of 2 elements : the wallet of the concerned cryptocurrency and a Linux Virtual Private (Internet) Server (VPS). A computer program is started on the VPS and exchanges data with the entire network of the concerned cryptocurrency. The VPS must be permanently connected to the Internet.

To function, you first need a “collateral” (starting capital / deposit), ie a certain number of units of a cryptocurrency (for example 1000 cryptocoins). Once you have assembled the collateral, you can create a masternode. The collateral helps reduce price volatility and makes Sybil attacks almost impossible. All required cryptocoins for the collateral must be credited in 1 single transaction.

The masternode concept, invented by Dash in 2015, has been adopted by more than 370 other cryptocurrencies.

By creating a masternode, you secure the concerned blockchain, which in turn allows you to earn rewards (block rewards), paid in the cryptocurrency linked to the masternode (for example in DASH, if you have a DASH masternode).
You receive this reward in cryptocurrency at a regular interval (generally 1 to 20 days, depending on the cryptocurrencies).

Advantages : No machine to have at home, regular compensation. The collateral can be recovered in cryptocurrency at any time.
Disadvantages : Requires collateral in the concerned cryptocurrency, rent a virtual server (VPS) and install the program on Linux. The value of the cryptocurrency may drop.

General information

The rate of pay is currently around 5 to 8%/year. This rate changes depending on the activity on the Waves blockchain and in the Nokenchain ecosystem.

Technical explanations

Virtual masternodes are a secure system, invented by Nokenchain, whereby cryptocurrency owners can generate stable passive income.
The algorithm developed by Nokenchain secures the original collateral against the US dollar on the day of creation of the masternode, which avoids significant variations in the value of the collateral. It is linked to the Nokenchain Stable Protocol (NSP) allowing you to receive rewards generated by the growth of the Waves blockchain activity and the growth of the Nokenchain ecosystem.
